Windows just sees and handles the image file which is stored on an NTFS filesystem just as a normal file. Linux accesses the image file via loop devices and modifies the image file. So for Windows it's just some update of the image file. So I also agree with Ron everything is OK with image-backup to work this way. If you get any errors this is most likely caused by some CIFS/SMB problems.If the image is stored on an NTFS filesystem, then even when you mount the '.img' file via loop, you are still operating on something that is ultimately stored on a non Linux filesystem. I cannot recommend doing this.
