I believe timings in edid will be used unaltered, without trying to nudge them towards any standards.mmm before messing around with the initramfs, I was doing further testing with many different timings and it seems that the DRM is making some changes to the video modes silently. Some timings containing weird frequencies like for example 57.2 freezes the whole system. If you round to 57 it works but moves the image down. I noticed the same displacement issue with 50Hz timings when the vertical resolution is not the standard 288 PAL. All those timings work well when using the DPI. Do you know if the DRM is trying to adhere to NTSC/PAL parameters?
If you have an edid that freezes the system, then post it here to see if I can reproduce.
