I refer you to the first part of my last reply:
It's much easier to troubleshoot when you eliminate the possible (regularly proven) weak points. Cutting and splicing cables adds more weak points, instead of removing them.
I am using a cheap USB inline meter, and yes it well might be that it doesn't show me the fast peaks. I'll see if I can use a proper multimeter, though I don't have an oscilloscope
Even a "proper multimeter" will not usually capture fast peaks. An oscilloscope would be one solution (voltage only, unless you have a current probe). You are out of the range of most amateur/homebrew measuring equipment here.

tl;dr: Get an official PSU! (Not a guaranteed fix, but the most economical next diagnostic step.)
