Hi With the Latest version of noobs being 3.9.1 or 3.9.2
in recovery mode if an installed os is checked and ha update beside it I understand that installed os will be updated, are the other os that say installed are they left untouched or wiped. the warning message isn't clear it just says a warning that the sd card will be erased.
It's not NOOBS, but PINN. ;)
The "update" flag is just an indication for you that a newer version is available of that OS than what you have installed.
The INSTALL button does exactly what the warning message says. It will first erase/wipe the WHOLE of your SD card, removing any and all OSes that were previously installed. It will then install any OSes that are checked (regardless of the update indication). By default when PINN starts, this selection is the list of OSes you already have installed, so it will essentially replace all your OSes with fresh versions, but all your data and settings will have been deleted. You should press the 'clear' button to uncheck all existing OSes if you want to start afresh with a new selection of OSes.

In most cases the OSes can be updated within themselves without pinn. E.g. for Raspberry Pi OS (raspios) you can do the usual `sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade or full-upgrade` etc. This will bring your OS up to date.

If you want to update a single OS with PINN to give you a fresh version, then you need the `RE-install` option. This is available in the Maintenance Menu. Just select the OSes you want to reinstall from that menu and press the Reinstall button. This will only wipe the OSes you have selected, leaving the other OSes intact. However, it will wipe all your data and settings for that OS and completely replace the OS, like a factory reinstall. In most cases it is better to upgrade an OS using its own update procedures as above so that you data and configuration remains.

Please read the documentation if you want to understand PINN's features. https://github.com/procount/pinn/blob/m ... ME_PINN.md
