My take of this thread is that you can power a RPI Zero 2W quite comfortably with a USB 3.0 USB hub.
It must be able to actually deliver the 900 mA on each port though, and you should run a headless OS with no peripherals attached in order to minimize the power need. When you do that, there is no need to tamper with any firmware or disabling cores.

Some under-voltage risk exists when maxing out on all ports simultaneously and some under-current risk when Zero's are deliberately targeted with malicious code. Without conditions mentioned, these risks don't exist.
