And I'm not sure how you mean. VBUS via USB arrives at the PMIC just as an external connection to the 5V pins on GPIO would. If the PMIC has to survive 5.5V, or even 5.25V, via USB it should be able to survive greater than 5.1V no matter how it is powered.USB is a different kettle of fish.
