Do you know how flaky the 3A and 3B machines are.
Obviously not. But I'm betting Raspberry Pi and many others would disagree with you.
You can break the PMIC by just staring at it.
Not sure they merit the hyperbole.
USB is a different kettle of fish.
And I'm not sure how you mean. VBUS via USB arrives at the PMIC just as an external connection to the 5V pins on GPIO would. If the PMIC has to survive 5.5V, or even 5.25V, via USB it should be able to survive greater than 5.1V no matter how it is powered.
