That you may not have waited long enough during the first boot for all the necessary stuff to have completed.

Try the 32bit lite image.

Let the first boot stuff complete.

Lastly, if your Pi needs a full size SD card it's a B not a B+.
Thanks! That is really helpful knowing which model it really is. The box it came in says B+ but that must be wrong.

It doesn't matter how long I wait -- at some point, the boot splash screen disappears, the activity light turns off and stays off, and nothing happens. Earlier today I tried again with a second microSD card, and the Debian image https://raspi.debian.net/tested/2023110 ... orm.img.xz and that failed with some more informative, repeating error messages:

Code:

[ 10.493964] Run/init as init process[ 22.755936] sdhost-bcm2835 20202000.mmc: timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.[ 22.828680] mmc0: card 0001 removed[ 24.163969] mmc0: card never left busy state[ 24.176785] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card[ 24.309151] mmc0: host does not support reading read-only switch, assuming write-enable[ 24.328324] mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address 0001[ 24.348879] mmcblk0: mmc0:0001 SD16G 29.2 GiB[ 24.370773] mmcblk0: p1 p2[ 24.413199] mmc0: card 0001 removed[ 24.639170] mmc0: host does not support reading read-only switch, assuming write-enable[ 24.657930] mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address 0001[ 24.678535] mmcblk0: mmc0:0001 SD16G 29.2 GiB[ 24.700212] mmcblk0: p1 p2[ 34.787935] sdhost-bcm2835 20202000.mmc: timeout waiting for hardware interrupt.[ 34.860439] 1/0 error, dev mmcblko, sector 5119872 op 0x0: (READ) flags 0x80700 phys_seg 1 prio class 2
Then I get the following messages which repeat 7-8 times before the monitor goes dead and the ACT light shuts off:

Code:

[ 82.327985] mmc0: card never left busy state[ 82.342070] mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card
To me, this means either there is a problem relating to reading the SD card, or both of my SD cards had something wrong with them.

I tried again with the official lite image, and 3rd SD card. This starts booting up, but then suddenly the monitor shuts off and the ACT light does also. I think it has some hardware problem that shuts it down.

Can you notice anything else in these logs? Or is there something I'm missing?
Thanks,
k
