That's a Thonny problem. It mixes up pypi and mip packages, and doesn't hint that one won't work on MicroPython.Yes, it seems like being able to install a package on Pico doesn't actually mean that that package belongs to Micropython and is usable on Pico.
For packages, there's Awesome MicroPython, and if you know something's in micropython-lib, the mim directory.
If you're used to numpy-like ease of slinging big structures about, you won't have much fun on a Pico
