All normal Raspberry Pis auto-detect the touch displays as the wiring to them is known.Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 IO Board

Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5, 8GB RAM, Lite
Compute Modules are intended for industrial applications where the integrator is entitled to use any and all GPIOs and interfaces for whatever purposes they fancy. Autodetection is therefore not feasible, and hence is disabled. The relevant dt fragments therefore need to be loaded via some other mechanism, whether dtoverlay or having a custom base DT file.
You are correct that the details in the Compute Module docs at https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentati ... ch-display only cover the original touch display, and needs extending for the new touch display.
The base docs could also detail that auto detection is only applicable for normal Pis, and point at the updated Compute Module docs.
