Graphics, sound and multimedia • Audio Streamer and Squeezebox emulator running simultaneously

I have a raspberry (3b) which simultaneously runs squeezelite (the squeezebox emulator from the rasbian repository) and BUTT (audio encoder which transmits to icecast.

When I first set this up several years I found that the two programs would conflict with each other depending upon the method used to start the two on boot. The solution I came up with was to use autostart for BUTT and to start squeezelite in "screen" from crontab. Any other method of starting squeezelite at boot caused the two programs to stop working until either one was stopped.

I was just updating the raspberry to raspberry 5 with bullseye and repeated the setup. I initially tried starting squeezelite as a service with systemd. The two programs initially worked and then crashed. I switched to my old method and they appear to be working.

While I have a satisfactory result, I would prefer to understand the problem and use the best possible, up-to-date method.
If anyone understands the conflict, I'd appreciate your input. Note: Squeezelite is outputting audio to the Hifiberry DAC2 + ADC Pro hat and BUTT is encoding from the input of the same card.
