Hippy, that's a good point about the virtual serial ports. Also, I guess one could build MicroPython to include a serial line via UART as well?If a Debug Probe is connected to USB while a Pico running stock MicroPython is also connected to USB I believe there will be two virtual serial devices created, '/dev/ttyACM0' and '/dev/ttyACM1', and only one will access the MicroPython REPL. You might be using the wrong one, and which the correct one is can vary.
Also, to OP, it should be now obvious the debug probe doesn't power the Pico either.
