It would prevent the problem you are seeing where the Pi is trying to boot from the USB drive. If someone has physical access to your Pi they can do anything they want with it (unless you have configured secure boot and you really need to know what you're doing to try that!).Any reason for NVMe first? Is it for data security reasons? Can another person boot Linux from a plug in usb thumb drive and gain access to the NVMe?boot from NVMe first, then USB.
