So avoid the Pico2W then, not ready for micropython (well other way around).Pimoroni has what they call an “experimental” build - and it works - but I doubt it is ready for educational use.
The Pico 1 W remains a capable microcontroller and I am not throwing mine away.
Rather than relying on Thonny for tracking downloads, the Micropython website lists all releases and has links to release notes.

Thonny is what they'll use as that's what Pi push. Also it links to changelog etc
Unfortunately these is no Pico2W device in the micropython lost it seems. Didn't look there.

I'm not throwing and PicoW away, just seems a waste buying the older generation for negligible cost difference.
Side track since this is a no go then.
I hope the Foundation contribute to support for both (still?), since that's their push in the tutorials.
I note it's not updated for either Pico2 yet. But they quickly move to picozero, usage. Fine but it's still in beta and not been touched for 2 years.
Does it have a maintainer any more?
